One of the great advantages of natural gas over other energy sources such as wind or photovoltaics is that it can be stored at times of low demand (in summer) and used when it is needed most (in winter). The storage tanks also serve as a strategic reserve in case the gas supply from the pipeline should be interrupted for any reason.
